Impacted Teeth / Teeth Extraction

When Should Teeth Be Removed?

When the decay in a tooth has traveled too far down into the tooth. When that tooth is crowding up your mouth when an infection breaks down much of the tooth or bone around it It is a common recommendation among dentists worldwide to extract impacted teeth even if they are partially erupted. Even though they are partially erupted, bacteria can find its way around the nooks and crannies into the teeth and start an infection. If left untouched, it can spread far beyond and become very serious very fast along with other problems starting to happen. This is why it is best to remove an impacted tooth and save yourself the pain it might bring along your life.

How Should Teeth Be Removed?

Your dentist should take X-rays and evaluate from them, as well as your medical history, to compose a method he or she will take. You should then be anesthetized to numb the place in your mouth where the extraction will happen.

Typically, the tooth is then loosened with an Elevator, then extracted with Forceps. After the tooth has been extracted your dentist may find the need to smooth the surface of the bone and stitch up the area.

Once finishing the procedure, your dentist should give you post-op instructions on how to keep the area infection-free and clean and have you smiling again in no time. For information on post-op care can be found here.
